The Archers Word
Archery - sport
Archery is the practice of using a bow to shoot arrows.
Historically, the bow ("arcus" in Latin) was used for hunting and combat, while nowdays it is rather performed as a sport, recreation or traditional hunting. People that are fond of this practice or even experts at it are sometimes also called toxophilites ("an archer, a lover or devoter for archery").

The history of archery is widespread along all cultures across the globe, having started already at Stone Age (20000BC).
The first culture known to have used regularly bows and arrows were the egyptians, around 3000BC.
In China, archery dates back to around 1766BC.
Archery has several different types of dicplines, the most important ones listed down here:
- Target archery: The only allowed discpline in the olympics, target archery consists of shooting at a bullseye with a set of arrows from a specific distance.
- Field archery: Similar to target archery, however the archer goes through an arena, in order to shoot at paper bullseyes set at different distances.
- 3D archery: Similar to field archery, however the targets are replaced typically by weather proof foam figures shaped as animals or else. This discipline tries to get the archer into the practice of hunting, however its often also taken as a fun recreation time in the outdoors.
- Flight archery: In its simplest form, one tries to shoot an arrow as far as possible with the use of a bow. However, technically speaking, this is the most challenging discipline of all, as bow, arrow and archer are put to the highest limit of strength, aerodynamics and lightweight properties.
